Image or video generation? How to choose

Image generation is mature: you can iterate quickly, control style tightly, and get production-usable results in a few attempts. If your end use is a thumbnail, poster, product mockup, or illustration, images are almost always the right call.

Video generation trades control for motion. Clips are shorter, iteration is slower, and small prompt changes can swing results dramatically. It shines for atmosphere — establishing shots, ambient loops, concept previews — rather than precise storytelling.

A practical rule: if you can storyboard your idea as one strong frame, generate an image. If the idea is meaningless without movement, generate video, and keep the clip short and the scene simple.

And if you're unsure, generate the image first anyway. It's cheaper to iterate, and many video tools accept an image as a starting frame, so good stills are never wasted work.
